Emergency Childbirth Instructions

Posted by Administrator to Birth
Do you have emergency childbirth instructions as part of your disaster preparedness kit? What happens if there’s a natural disaster while you’re about to give birth?

From Hurricane Sandy to Hurricane Katrina, Snowmaggedon and other forces of nature, the ensuing flooding, power outages and other storm damage can block roads and hinder the ability of emergency crews to reach you—or you to reach a hospital or birth center—in case you go into labor.

Making it through a natural disaster is stressful and unpleasant enough, but when you’re pregnant—and particularly when you’re late in your pregnancy—the possibility of no electricity, running water, sanitation, and heat is even more frightening.

What if you go into labor?

It’s not being too prepared to plan for the possibility that you might have an emergency childbirth situation.

The follow emergency childbirth instructions may help you if disaster strikes. Print now and here’s hoping that you never have to use them:

Guide to Emergency Childbirth,” from the American College of Nurse-Midwives

Wishing everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy safety and comfort in the hours and days ahead. We are thinking of you and praying for you here on the West Coast.

With best wishes,

Tara
