What is chloasma?
Chloasma, also known as "melasma" and "the mask of pregnancy," is
hyperpigmentation, or darkening, of the skin. It usually shows as
collections of dark splotches on the cheeks and nose, but can also
appear anywhere on the body.
What causes chloasma?
Reproductive hormones cause an increased production of melanocytes—the
cells in your skin that create pigment to protect from ultraviolet
damage. The extra deposits of melanocytes left by those industrious
